Get Paid Faster: Invoice Payment Links Are Here
Introduction
The average Nigerian SME waits 45-90 days to get paid on invoices. That's money sitting in limbo while you're trying to pay suppliers, staff, and keep the lights on.
Today, we're changing that with Invoice Payment Links—a simple way to get paid directly through your TaxHQ invoices.
The Problem with Traditional Invoicing
Here's how most Nigerian businesses send invoices today:
1. Create invoice in Excel or Word
2. Export to PDF
3. Send via WhatsApp or email
4. Wait...
5. Follow up after due date
6. Wait some more...
7. Finally get paid (maybe)
The biggest friction? There's no easy way for customers to pay. They have to manually copy your bank details, open their banking app, type in the amount, and hope they don't make a mistake.
The Solution: One-Click Payment Links
With TaxHQ's payment links, the process becomes:
1. Create invoice in TaxHQ
2. Generate payment link (one click)
3. Share via WhatsApp
4. Customer clicks link and pays
5. Money in your account. Done.
No more chasing. No more "I'll pay tomorrow." No more manual reconciliation.
How It Works
Step 1: Create Your Invoice
Create your invoice as usual in TaxHQ. Add your customer details, line items, VAT—everything is calculated automatically.
Step 2: Generate Payment Link
On the invoice page, you'll see a new "Payment Link" section. Click "Generate Payment Link" and choose your preferred payment gateway:
- **Paystack** - Most popular in Nigeria
- **Flutterwave** - Great for international payments
The system generates a secure payment link valid for 72 hours.
Step 3: Share with Your Customer
You have multiple options:
- **Copy the link** and paste anywhere
- **Share on WhatsApp** (pre-formatted message with all invoice details)
- **Send via Email** directly from TaxHQ
Step 4: Customer Pays
Your customer receives a link like `taxhq.ng/pay/abc123`. When they click it, they see:
- Your business name and logo
- Invoice details and line items
- Total amount due
- Multiple payment options (card, bank transfer, USSD)
They click "Pay Now", complete the payment, and you're done.
Step 5: Automatic Updates
The moment payment is confirmed:
- Your invoice is marked as **"Paid"**
- The transaction is recorded automatically
- You get a notification
- Your customer gets a receipt
No manual reconciliation. No checking bank statements. It just works.
Why This Matters for Nigerian Businesses
1. Reduce Payment Delays
When paying is easy, customers pay faster. A study by Paystack found that payment links have a 40% higher completion rate than manual bank transfers.
2. Look Professional
Your customers see a branded payment page with your business name. It builds trust and makes you look like the professional operation you are.
3. Accept Multiple Payment Methods
Not everyone has a card. With payment links, your customers can pay via:
- Debit/Credit cards
- Bank transfer
- USSD (no internet needed)
- Bank account direct debit
4. Automatic Reconciliation
Every payment is automatically matched to the invoice. Your books stay clean without manual data entry.
5. Tax-Ready Records
Since TaxHQ already handles your VAT and WHT calculations, every payment is properly recorded for tax compliance. No more scrambling at year-end.
Setting Up Payment Links
Before you can generate payment links, you need to connect your payment gateway:
1. Go to Settings > Integrations
2. Click on Paystack or Flutterwave
3. Enter your Secret Key (from your gateway dashboard)
4. Save
That's it. You're ready to start collecting payments.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the fees?
TaxHQ doesn't charge extra for payment links. You only pay the standard gateway fees:
- **Paystack**: 1.5% + ₦100 (capped at ₦2,000)
- **Flutterwave**: 1.4% (local cards)
Is it secure?
Yes. Payments are processed directly by Paystack/Flutterwave—the same systems used by Jumia, Konga, and major Nigerian banks. TaxHQ never sees or stores card details.
What if the customer doesn't pay online?
No problem. The invoice still shows your bank details for manual transfer. When they pay manually, you can record the payment in TaxHQ as usual.
Can I send reminders?
Not yet, but automated payment reminders are coming soon. For now, you can reshare the payment link anytime.
What happens if the link expires?
You can generate a new payment link with one click. The old link simply won't work anymore.
